Borgo Scopeto

Borgo Scopeto is located near Castelnuovo Berardenga a few km from Siena and was founded in the year 1000. At that time it was part of the agricultural estate of the bishop of Siena.

The beautiful tower on the property was built in the 13th century and was part of a larger defensive structure.
At the beginning of the 14th century, the church gifted the property to one of the most important families in Siena, the Sozzini family, who kept it for more than 5 centuries.

Although the estate had been producing wine for centuries, it was not until the 1990 vintage that the wine was sold under the castle's own label. From the 1998 vintage, responsibility for vinification at the castle was taken over by one of the most renowned Brunello producers in the area; Caparzo.

The property consists of 493 ha. situated at an altitude of 350 and 400 m., but only 37 ha. planted with vines on the most suitable plots with limestone, sandstone and marl soils. 30 ha. are planted with Sangiovese, while 3 ha. are planted with Cabernet and Syrah and 4 ha. with Chardonnay.

In the beautiful cellars of the castle you will find the best equipment for winemaking with stainless steel tanks and wooden barrels of various sizes.
