Collection: Malteco Rome

Ron Malteco is a Guatemalan-style rum, but it is actually a Panamanian rum, produced by Varela Hermanos Bodegas de America SA. The recipe comes from Guatemala, where Malteco was originally produced.

Varela Hermanos is located in the town of Pesé in south-central Panama. In 1908, the then owner, Don José Varela Blanco, established the first sugar factory. Later, in 1936, the rum distillery opened, which has been producing high-quality rum ever since. Only the pure juice from the first pressing of the sugar cane is used, resulting in a rum in the sweet style. Distillation follows the traditional method in a column still (also called a coffee still)

The nectar is then filled into 200-liter oak barrels, after which it is aged at an altitude of 2,300 meters. The aging in American oak barrels contributes to the light style that many love rum from Guatemala for. The Malteco rum is bottled at the time when the maturation process is at its peak, thereby achieving a rum with intense flavor, fine rounded taste and pleasant strength. Malteco rum is aged for up to 25 years and there is one for every rum lover.
