Excellent Langhe Nebbiolo!

With Carlo Revello's talent, land holdings and zealous approach, it beats all the supermarket Barolos by a long shot. Revello is based in La Morra and their Langhe Nebbiolo is no exception.

The Nebbiolo grapes come from fields around the famous village of Annunziata, where the soil is calcareous and mainly composed of clay. The vines were all planted in 1960, so they are at the perfect age for sumptuous ripeness and flavor.

Classic for Piedmont, the grapes are harvested late, first in October, to ensure that the thick-skinned, acidic grapes reach perfect ripeness. The maceration lasts for 14 days, after which the wine is aged in used French barrels for 12-14 months. Transparent in the glass, a slender entrance on the tongue that takes revenge with a tear in the gums, so the initially gentle, slightly spicy and sweet berry aroma is difficult to remember. However, it is the immediately captivating apothecary smell that makes the wine special.

The Revello brothers Carlo and Lorenzo have always been the closest disciples in La Morra to Elio Altare, who is one of the absolute pioneers of the modern interpretation of Barolo. That is, with green harvesting, short maceration and aging in small barrique barrels, rather than the classic and traditional large Botti barrels.

La Morra is notorious for its lighter, livelier and more drinkable Barolos, which perfectly matches Revello’s style. Years ago, the Revello brothers decided to split their winery in two so that their wine-educated children wouldn’t have to fight over the reins of the original domain. This means that Carlo Revello e Figli will eventually be run by Carlo’s two sons, Erik and Niklas (he is married to a Swede), who have 7.5 hectares of La Morra’s best fields to play on.

Judging from the domain's wines in the debut vintages, it will be a success story of sorts: Juicy wines with deep, pure and balsamic fruit, creaminess from the barrel treatment and marked but refined tannins are the house's - and Carlos' - hallmarks.
