Welcome to Ida!
Together with renowned Sicilian winemaker Alberto Graci, Angelo Gaja has created a joint venture, and the dream is to create the best wine on Etna.
Alberto Graci has owned fields on Etna for many years, and with the new partnership with Gaja they have purchased additional land holdings.
The name Idda comes from the Ethneians (the locals who live around the volcano). They consider the volcano to be a woman, hence this girl's name that is popular on the island.
A little about the wine…
2018 Idda is made primarily from Nerello Mascalese and a little Nerello Cappuccio.
“Soft-pressed” as they want an elegant juicy wine.
Stored 2 years in 50,000 liter Botti's and cement tanks
Clear, clean aroma with clear notes of cherry, slightly spicy – very reminiscent of a Burgundian Pinot Noir.
Super fine tannins, beautiful and elegant berry notes that give a velvety feel on the tongue.
Extremely well-made with great finesse and elegance and the taste is reminiscent of a Burgundy – at the better end.
