Sito Moresco is named after the Moresco family, who owned the 25-hectare estate in Barbaresco that Angelo Gaja took over in 1978. The pheasants on the label are a nod to the many pheasants that live in the forests surrounding GAJA's vineyards.
Sito Moresco is a well-balanced blend of 35% Nebbiolo, 35% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is aged for 18 months in small wooden barrels, according to Angelo Gaja's instructions, and then another 6 months in bottle.
On the nose, Sito Moresco is clean, with aromas of small fruits. The taste is dominated by fruit, with a good balance in the mouth and fresh fruit on the finish, with fine, silky tannins. Sito Moresco should be drunk young, but can easily withstand 5-7 years in the cellar to mature even more.
