A Barolo beyond all expectations!

The Nebbiolo grapes for this wine are usually sourced mainly from the “Ravera” vineyard in Novello, but in 2017 Nebbiolo grapes are included from plots located in 10 of the 11 municipalities in the DOCG Barolo. The age of the vines varies from 9 to 42 years, and most plots are in transition to organic cultivation.

All plots are vinified separately and the blending is done immediately before bottling. The grapes undergo a long alcoholic fermentation in steel tanks with continuous pumping over and stirring. The wine is then transferred to wooden barrels for malolactic fermentation and matures for 30 months in both large wooden barrels and small barriques.

2017 is one of the most classic and “precise” vintages for the area, where both Barolo’s delicate tones and meatiness come through beautifully. “Castiglione” draws small details and characters from all the vineyards it is made from, and good vinification has given the wine a perfect overall harmony that both impresses and seduces.

The wine starts with delicate, balsamic notes of mint and roses, but quickly reveals deeper fruit characters of cherry, plum and wild blackberry. The taste is both resonant and velvety. It grows a lot with oxygenation. Serve it with game birds, venison, beef and cheese.
