Recycler - We make ginger shots
Share
We love wine (it's no secret...), but without sounding too sanctimonious, it's really nice when you can reuse the bottles for something useful.
Last week we were at a trade fair and the most popular wine we brought was Montrose Prestige Rosé - besides the fact that it tastes fantastic, it gives bonus points at a lifestyle trade fair when you present a nice bottle with a glass stopper ;-)
It led to a lot of good conversation, and lots of suggestions and recipes for ginger shots - which are apparently the new food trend. Of course, we had to start making our own and pouring them into recycled rosé bottles, so here's a little recipe on how to make them yourself.
Ginger and turmeric and packed with vitamins and doing a lot of good for your energy levels, your joints and much more, boiled down to a shot you can take for breakfast, you get plenty of what your body likes. It's fairly easy to make and takes care of itself once you've got it to boil.
You will need:
- 200 g ginger
- a few sticks of turmeric (can be purchased at Irma and other well-stocked supermarkets)
- 1 whole lemon (approx. 200 gr.)
- 2 tablespoons honey (can be omitted)
- 2 liters of water
How to do it:
- Peel the ginger with a potato peeler and cut it into slices, you may have to break the 'branches' apart to peel it all over.
- Wash the lemon and cut it into wedges.
- peel the turmeric and cut it into slices - NOTE: it gives off a lot of color, as in a lot, so if you don't want to have nicotine-yellow fingers for the next few days, it's smart to use gloves ;-)
- Pour everything into a large pot, along with honey and water, and cook for 45 minutes over low heat.
- When it is finished, it must be allowed to cool, after about 1 hour you can start pouring it into bottles.
- Pour it into your cleaned rosé bottles - use a strainer and a funnel for the easiest way.
- Put the bottles in the refrigerator - now you have about 2 liters of ginger shots that can last about 14 days in the refrigerator.
We have been drinking them every morning this week, and we think they are refreshing and give us a lot of energy. If you are missing the nice bottle with a glass stopper, you can buy it here , as an added bonus it is filled with delicious rosé that you should drink first
