Red Wine and Burgers - Columbia Crest Tasting

The other day we had the pleasure of experiencing the great wines from Columbia Crest with lots of knowledge and stories about the American winery. Red wine and burgers may not be what we normally put together, but when it comes to something as arch-American as red wine from Columbia Crest, it must be said to be the right way to go.

Wine is produced in all 50 states of the USA, which of course does not mean that it is all good, as Xander from Columbia Crest told us. In practice, it is also 4 states that account for the vast majority of US wine production; California, Oregon and Washington on the West Coast and New York on the East Coast.
Columbia Crest Wine Tasting
Columbia Crest is located somewhat further north than the well-known Californian wineries, but can boast something resembling an almost European climate, due to its location near the 45th parallel.
One of the pillars of Columbia Crest's wine production is the mantra "Value for money" - here they produce wines at a reasonable price that provide good value for money. We were given a brief introduction to the house's series; Two Vines, Grand Estate, H3 and the famous Reserve - the wine that was chosen as WineSpectator's No. 1 in 2011. Not a bad achievement for a wine at $60...

The impression left after tasting the wines from Columbia Crest against each other is that you get a lot of quality for the money. The Two Vines and Grand Estate series both rise above the level of "everyday wines", but at a price that everyone can afford. If you want something a little more luxurious, you will find complex and intense wine experiences in the H3 and Reserve wines.

Another common feature is the ability of all the wines to be true to the grape they are grown from. This means that when you drink a Columbia Crest Two Vines Merlot, it tastes like you would expect Merlot to taste. Likewise with their Syrah from Grand Estates or the Cabernet Sauvignon, or.... and we could go on.
