Guide: How to make Frosé

Frosé! Does this sound familiar? Maybe not, but if you're a regular visitor to this site, I have no doubt that you'll love the latest cocktail trend, Frosé.

It was invented at a bar in New York and rightly so; it's a Frozen Rosé - or in cool New York slang: Frosé. It's pretty easy to make - you have to be in good time, of course, as some of the ingredients need to be frozen, but hey! - it can last for 1 week in the freezer, so make a decent batch now that you're in.

The most important ingredient in a Frosé is of course the rosé wine, it can taste of something, as it is both mixed up and frozen down and thereby loses some of its concentration and color. We have chosen to use Calendas Rosado , which is perfect for a good Frosé, you can buy it on the button above.

Ingredients (4-6 servings):

  • 1 bottle of Calendas Rosado (75 cl)
  • 1.5 dl sugar
  • 1.5 dl water
  • 225 grams strawberries (cleaned and cut into small boats)
  • 3/4 deciliter fresh lemon juice
  • Ice cubes

How to do it:

  • Pour the rosé into a flat-bottomed bowl or a baking pan. Place it in the freezer for at least 6 hours. (Due to the alcohol in the wine, it will not freeze completely.)
  • Now mix the water and sugar in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring until all the sugar has dissolved, about 3 minutes - the finished mixture is the same as the sugar syrup used in drinks.
  • Add the cleaned strawberries and remove the pan from the heat. Let it sit for half an hour so your sugar syrup will have a strawberry flavor.
  • After half an hour, you have strawberry syrup. Now pour the sugar/strawberry mixture through a fine sieve and into a bowl, which should not contain any fruit pieces. Refrigerate the strawberry syrup for half an hour.
  • Now take the frozen rosé out of the freezer and with a spatula or dough scraper pour it into a blender. Add the lemon juice, 1 dl strawberry syrup and 2.5 dl ice cubes. Blend everything until you have a smooth mixture.
  • Place the mixture in the freezer for 25-35 minutes - it should resemble a milkshake in thickness.
  • Take the mixture out of the freezer again, give it a quick spin with the blender until you have a slush-ice-like consistency - pour your creation into tall cocktail glasses or wine glasses and garnish with strawberries or a lemon slice.
  • Enjoy your own awesomeness in a kitchen with a delicious glass of Frosé - Cheers!

You may want to taste the mixture as you go along and add more lemon juice or strawberry syrup, depending on how sour/sweet you want your Frosé to be. You can also experiment with other types of fruit and berries in the sugar syrup - raspberries are recommended.
