Missetti Nero d'Avola - Sicily

From Menfi in southwestern Sicily come these two organic wines: a Chardonnay and a Nero d'Avola. They are created in close collaboration with a local cooperative that has had sustainability as an important cornerstone since 1958. Both wines reflect the unique combination of the Mediterranean's warmth and cool sea breezes that characterize Sicily.

The palate is rich in ripe fruit, with soft tannins and an elegantly rounded character. The aroma reveals juicy red stone fruits such as cherries, cloudberries and plums, complemented by fine spices and a subtle hint of mushrooms.

In Menfi, the Nero d'Avola grape gets its juicy bite from the intense sun and the refreshing sea air. On slopes with limestone soil and a vertical tying method (Guyot), the yield is kept low, so that the grapes achieve a special concentration. The grapes are harvested around mid-September and fermented in temperature-controlled steel tanks, after which the wine matures for three months. The wine is vegan, as it is not clarified with animal proteins.
