Now it's time for the last rum in Plantation's popular series, Under the Sea.
This time we're going to Venezuela, where Alexandre Gabriel has sniffed out a fantastic molasses-based rum. It was distilled in 2010 and then aged for 8 tropical years in ex-bourbon barrels in Venezuela. Plantation selected a total of 22 barrels, which then made the trip across the Atlantic to be aged in French oak barrels in Ferrand's own cellars.
The rum is bottled at 52% and has no added coloring or sugar. The label features a Spotted Eagle Ray – one of the symbols of Venezuela.
Color: Deep golden.
Fragrance: The scent is both delicate and rich, with notes of nutmeg, honey, mandarin, coconut and nuts.
Tasting notes: On the tongue, the rum is dry and spicy, showing notes of orange, pepper, cloves, dried banana and roasted almonds.
Serving suggestion: Should be enjoyed neat.
