What is LBV?
Late Bottled Vintage is a vintage port wine that is first bottled after a minimum of 4 years of barrel aging. Compared to a classic vintage port wine, this means that the LBV offers a more immediate drinking experience, with more body and roundness. If the port wine is unfiltered, like this one from Ramos Pinto, it will contain some sediment and thus have the opportunity to develop further during aging in the bottle.
After opening, it is recommended to decant your Late Bottled Vintage into a carafe to avoid the sediment that has collected in the bottle.
As with other wines, it is an organic product that is affected by its surroundings. So once you open the bottle and the wine is exposed to oxygen, there will be a gradual change in taste and aroma. Therefore, you will get the best experience if you drink your LBV within 2-3 weeks of opening.
In the classic way, the grapes for Ramos Pinto LBV are harvested by hand, carried to the vineyard and trodden with the feet in the winepress. After 3 to 5 days of fermentation, the wine is bottled in large barrels and aged on the Vila Nova de Gaia estate.
Serving
Ramos Pinto LBV 2015 goes well with rich cheeses, game or chocolate desserts. TastingClub recommends a serving temperature of 17-18 degrees.
