Collection: Bodegas Luis Cañas

Luis Cañas Logo Bodegas Luis Cañas is a family-owned winery founded in 1928 in Villabuena de Alava, northwest of Logrono in Rioja.

Before that, the Cañas family had been growing wine in the area for more than 200 years. Today, the winery is one of the most significant in Rioja and in Spain as a whole.

The grapes are sourced from the family's 110 ha. and from a further 200 ha. (consisting of 815 plots) owned by small farmers with whom they have long-term contracts. The company's 110 ha. vineyards consist of approximately 50 plots in the heart of the Rioja Alavesa area and are cultivated by 3 agronomists and 7 permanent growers.

The fields are primarily located on gentle slopes and terraces with a fertile clay and calcareous subsoil, which is perfect for viticulture. A large part of the field work is done manually. The vineyards are primarily planted with Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano for the reds, and Viura and Malvasia for the whites.

For the vinification, Luis Cañas has the most modern equipment, which allows, among other things, grape sorting, gentle pressing, separate fermentation, temperature control and barrel aging. For the wines that need to be matured, the classic method of destemming, fermentation in tanks and barrel aging is used.

Both the vineyard itself and the wines from Luis Cañas have received numerous awards both in Spain and internationally.
