Collection: Haut-Beausejour - Bordeaux

In 1992, Jean-Claude Rouzaud, oenologist and owner of Champagne Louis Roederer, discovered 2 castles in Saint-Estèphe, which constituted a property of approximately 31 hectares in total: Château Picard and Château Beauséjour, both classified as Cru Bourgeois in 1932. The property was for sale, and Jean-Claude Rouzaud could immediately see the possibilities that presented themselves here.

Jean-Claude divided the acquired property in two and named the most prestigious part: Château Haut-Beauséjour. This plot consists of a total of 19 hectares and benefits from an ideal location.

Since the purchase, Jean-Claude Rouzaud has initiated renovation work both in the vineyards and in the cellar to improve the quality of the wine. The goal is clear, one of the best wines of Saint-Estèphe is to be produced here. To achieve the high quality, Jean-Claude has, among other things, introduced a stricter pruning and thus reduced the number of "shoot formations" in the spring. "Green harvesting" has been introduced, which consists of removing some of the weak bunches during the summer, as well as a return to manual harvesting and sorting of the grapes. Finally, a completely new team of employees has been hired to give Château Haut-Beauséjour a new start and the best future.

Saint-Estèphe is one of the four most sought-after appellations on the Médoc peninsula in Bordeaux. It is also the one closest to the Gironde's mouth into the Atlantic Ocean, which has a strong influence on the climate, but the soil is also marked by the proximity of the sea, being more clayey than further up the river. These factors give Saint-Estèphe wines their very own terroir.
