"The Beast of Dufftown"
In the heart of Speyside lies Dufftown, where Mortlach 's small distillery has been part of the town since 1823, when the distillery was founded as the first (legal) distillery in the town.
Over the years, Mortlach has achieved an almost mythical, cult-like status, as their exquisite whisky has only been produced in small quantities, the majority of which has been used by master blenders to create the backbone of other distilleries' vintage whiskies.
Mortlach Whisky is distilled through a complex process, some blends 2 times, others 3 or more; the result is the unique "2.81" distillation. Subsequently, the whisky is aged in sherry casks and the result is the rich, characterful Mortlach Whisky , which has over time been nicknamed " The Beast of Dufftown ".
