We are very pleased to present Scarpa Vini; a so-called “traditionalist producer” from Piedmont.
Founded by Antonio Scarpa in the latter half of the 19th century, located in Monferrato in the heart of Piedmont, and owning stunning vineyard locations around Barolo/Barbaresco/Asti, it doesn't get much better.

Vini Scarpa vinifies in large old Allier barrels, and ages them in bottle for up to 1.5 years before releasing them to the market. Classic, traditional style with lots of layers of flavor, tannins and extremely complex 'food wines'.

Scarpa's founder, Antonio Scarpa, was originally from Veneto, but he started out as a wine farmer in Piedmont.

Over time, the property has passed through several different hands, but the most important owner has probably been Mario Pesce (b. 1925). He took over Scarpa after World War II but first started with some study trips to Alsace and Burgundy. From there he brought new methods to the vineyard, and when the boom of the 70s pushed things in the right direction, he began exporting wine.
From this period comes Scarpa's philosophy: High quality, sustainable cultivation, traditional vinification.

Since 2001, Maria Piera Zola has been in charge of the vineyard. Although Scarpa himself describes his way of making wine as traditional, the house's wine style is definitely his own!

Unlike most producers in the area, they do not use any form of temperature control, as they want to prioritize natural vinification. More than 50% of the wines are aged only in stainless steel tanks to bring out the character of the different grape varieties or vineyards as much as possible. Only the largest wines are aged in large barrels of French oak from the Allier forest (and not Slavonian wood, as is common in Piedmont).
