Amarone Classico “Di Carlo” from Lenotti is the house’s “prestige amarone”, which is only made in the top vintages with the best grapes available. It is usually made from three or four of the area’s classic grapes harvested on the company’s plots in Negrar, Valgatara and Fumane. The dried grapes for Amarone “Di Carlo” are usually pressed and fermented in January-February and are then aged for 3 years in barriques and larger casks, which have been specially selected for the purpose by Claudio’s father Massimo Carlo Lenotti – the house’s uncompromising cellar master. The limited production of 6,000-9,000 bottles is, after aging in cask, further aged in bottles in the company’s cellars before shipping. The vinification philosophy for this wine is to let nature influence the work as much as possible and to bring out the characters of the grapes, the area and the vintage as much as possible.
“Di Carlo” is an Amarone with a very intense structure and at the same time a finesse that is only found in the best wines from the area. The color is dark and deep, and in the aroma you find Amarone's classic ethereal tones. In the taste you find nuances of pickled dark fruits, coffee, cocoa, hazelnuts and raisins. In the aftertaste you still sense a bit of wood character, which blends beautifully with the exotic tones. Drink it on its own on special occasions or with dishes such as roast beef and veal, with game dishes or with mature cheeses. Serve it at approx. 18-19 degrees and remember to open the bottle approx. 1 hour before serving.
