Domaine Bellang Meursault

Domaine Bellang is located in Meursault in Burgundy and covers 11 hectares spread over the appellations of Volnay, Beaune, Savigny les Beaune and Chorey les Beaune. In 1974, Christian Bellang took over his parents' vineyards, primarily in Meursault and later also his father-in-law's fields in Savigny-Lès-Beaune. His son Christophe Bellang joined the Domaine in 1995 and today Christophe is in charge of the operation. All their vines are grown according to the principle of "Lutte Raisonnée" which can be translated as "sustainable agriculture" and is as close to organic cultivation as you can get without being certified.

Domaine Bellang Meursault is Chardonnay at its best. A truly well-made wine with beautiful notes of citrus, peach, mandarin, hazelnut and a nice buttery richness. Classic Meursault that is ready to drink now with its fresh acidity and wonderful length in the taste and very well-balanced palate.

The wines grow on a gently sloping plot with a soil dominated by clay and lime and are vinified in barrels with the wild yeast that comes with the grapes from the field. After vinification, the wine is aged in oak barrels for somewhere between 10-18 months, depending on the vintage.

Domaine Bellang purchases new barrels every 4 years, so this Meursault is aged in 25% new barrels. The yield is very low (approx. 20 hl/hc) and the concentration in the wine is therefore very high.
