Mineral and elegant Chardonnay from the heart of Pinot country
White grapes are rare in Chorey-les-Beaune, where Pinot Noir dominates. But a few sandy plots produce Chardonnay grapes with particular finesse and character. This wine from Domaine Chapuis is a beautiful example: fresh, mineral and precise – with notes of mint, pear and a touch of tropical fruit.
The wine is aged for 12 months in French barrels, of which only 10% are new – this ensures a clean and clear expression, where fruit and minerality take center stage. There is enough structure and depth for a few years of development in the bottle, but also open and charming in its youth.
Tradition and terroir since 1850
The Chapuis family has been making wine in Burgundy for over 170 years. It all began in 1850, when Pierre Pavelot bought 1.6 hectares on the legendary Charlemagne field. His daughter married Antoine Chapuis – and the foundation stone of Domaine Chapuis was laid.
Today, the 6th generation, Claire and Pierre Chapuis, are slowly taking over the reins in close collaboration with their parents Maurice and Anne-Marie. The family owns 11 hectares in the Côte de Beaune, primarily with Pinot Noir, but also two fields with Chardonnay.
Sustainable Burgundy with soul
Although they are not certified organic, they work with great respect for nature and have achieved HVE3 certification (High Environmental Value). This means, among other things, a focus on biodiversity, minimal use of pesticides and responsible operation in the field and cellar.
