90 points - Guia Penin
The intro wine from the super house Figuero is soft, charming and dense.
Figuero 4 Meses is made from Tempranillo vines aged between 15 and 25 years. The wine is aged for 5 months in 66% French and 34% American barrels, which gives it fresh, cool and deep fruit and nice minerality. The nose is dominated by cherries, licorice, pepper, blueberries and rosemary - all rounded off by a delicate finish that never overpowers.
Until the late 90s, Bodegas Garcia Figuero, from Ribera del Duero, supplied its sought-after grapes to the top house Pesquera. But the leap into creating great wines himself was too exciting for winemaker José Maria Garcia to pass up. He invested in a completely new winery, where the wine is only transported around the winery by gravity. A so-called "all gravity" winery. The gentle treatment of the must without pumps means that the wine has the greatest possible stability and retains all its aromas.
This made Bodegas Garcia Figuero a reality. Since then, the winery has been riding a wave of success, including great ratings from Parker, who has dished out 95 points several times...
Figueros vines are up to 80 years old, which provides an exceptionally good base for producing extremely high quality wine. The fields are located in the prestigious La Horra, the absolute best area in Ribera del Duero, where Peter Sisseck's Pingus wines also have their home!
