Domaine François Lumpp owns a 2.45 ha plot on the 1st Cru field 'A Vigne Rouge', which is located southwest of the village itself, at the foot of the slope, at an altitude of 259 m. Part of the field faces south/southwest and the other part faces east/southeast. A diversity that gives both good exposure to the sun and a coolness that always means aromatic and precise wines.
The subsoil is classic for the area with a high concentration of limestone mixed with marl (clay), which provides perfect conditions for producing Pinot Noir wines that have both strength, bite and finesse.
The grapes are harvested manually in small containers to avoid crushing and oxidation during transport to the cellar. The bunches are selected both during picking and on a sorting table upon arrival at the winery.
In the cellar, a natural and slow fermentation is practiced (with the grapes' own yeast cells) without too much intervention during the process, using carefully selected wooden barrels (new, 1 year old and 2 years old), and as little filtration as possible. The wines are allowed to rest between all processes. The aim of these efforts is to promote a good harmony between the complex, aromatic and fruity nuances of the grapes and the character of the local distinctiveness, so that the wines have both bite and structure, and charm and finesse.
Normally, one would recommend a little aging for the wines from 'A Vigne Rouge', but François Lumpp is a master at adding roundness and charm to the wines. This 'A Vigne Rouge' is already quite open and pleasant in its youth, with good fruit concentration and a touch of spice.
The aroma reveals ripe notes of cherry, mulberry and white pepper. The taste is also quite rounded and fruity, with notes of ripe, wild berries and crisp, precise tones in the long aftertaste. Definitely one of the best Côte-Chalonnaise red wines! Serve it with poultry, veal or pork, preferably in stews.
