"If only it were true!" - the slightly ironic Italian expression "Magari" is a fitting name for the proud Rosso de Toscana, from Gaja's Ca'Marcanda vineyard in the Bolgheri district.

The name was chosen because it contains a hint of irony and hope. A typically Piedmontese (or Gaja's) way of bringing smiles when a huge amount of work has been invested, as is the case with the Ca' Marcanda project.

Each grape variety is fermented separately in steel tanks. After malolactic fermentation, the wines from the 3 grape varieties are blended and then matured for 12 months in new and one to two year old barriques (225 l.).

After bottling, the wine is further aged for at least 6 months before shipping. Based on the grape composition, one would expect a Bordeaux-style wine, but Bolgheri's special terroir with a mix of structure and ripe fruitiness comes through nicely.

The color is extremely dark with ruby tones, and the aroma reveals notes of freshly roasted coffee, leather, blackberry, blackcurrant and licorice. The taste is very structured, intense and complex. The fruit concentration is impressive, and the wine is at the same time very clean and harmonious.

The wood character and tannin blend nicely with the fruit, but the wine also has huge potential. Magari takes up a lot of space in terms of flavor and should therefore be served with dishes that can provide it with resistance: lamb, game, beef or strong white or red mold cheeses.
