Wow, an intro champagne from the Velut family! Pure as snow in Lapland with citrus oil, chalk and coriander seeds. Round, full-bodied and easy to drink in the mouth. Premier Temps is citrus-marinated minerality, salty and rich with an insistent weight on the tongue. Not sweet, but with such ripe grape material that they still seem round and easy to drink. True artisan wine that has recently made Parker's man in Champagne ring the bell.
Montgueux was once considered Champagne's answer to Montrachet in Burgundy - the absolute top and in a rich, opulent style. Today, the center of Champagne has moved north, but in southern Montgueux, a few farmers still make excellent champagne on the limed terroir. Denis Velut is one of them and his champagnes belong to the small group of must-drinks, if you want to understand what champagne can also be besides mainstream sparkling water. Velut makes real artisanal wines, which has recently made Parker's man in Champagne ring the bell. We bought a small amount - you can't get more out of Denis, who never produces more than 30,000 bottles a year. That's about one per thousand of what Moët & Chandon produces from just one wine!
