The green grape variety Rotgipfler is a specialty from the Thermenregion and the result of a cross between Traminer and Roter Veltliner, both of which are related to Austria's most famous grape variety; Grüner Veltliner.
The name Rotgipfler does not come from the color of the grape (it is completely green), but from the red spots that can be found on the leaves. Rotgipfler is therefore related to Grüner Veltliner and has many of the characteristics of this grape - however, it is a bit more spicy and structured. The grapes for this wine are collected from the south and southeast-facing vineyards around Gumpoldskirchen, at an altitude of approx. 300-400 m. with vines that are between 10 and 20 years old.

The subsoil here contains some pebbles, but also richer layers of brown, clay/loam soil, which for many generations has given excellent results for white grape varieties such as Rotgipfler and Zierfandler. Fermentation and maturation (4 months 'sur lie') take place in a combination of steel tanks (80%) and large wooden barrels.
The grape variety's classic, elegant notes of exotic fruits (citrus, passion) come through nicely in the aroma and taste, where the wine shows a delicious crispness and structure. The wine has good minerality and a long aftertaste. The dryness and velour blend beautifully. Matches seafood or fish dishes - preferably Asian-inspired.
