Lupe Cholet Hautes-Côtes de Nuits 2020 - Burgundy

2020 was a fantastic year for Burgundy wines. Although some producers experienced some frosty weather early in the season, the result was still very successful. The vintage is already being called 'The Harmony Vintage' because the wines are extremely well-balanced and harmonious.

Lupe-Cholet's 2020 Hautes-Cotes de Nuits is exactly that; the wine has a nice complexity and depth, and it has the classic "Nuits" style, which is a little more powerful and opulent.

A little about the wine:

This Hautes-Côtes de Nuits brilliantly proves the claim that from a good producer you get a lot for your money in this appellation. The Pinot Noir grapes for this wine are sourced from a few organically grown plots that face east and south and are therefore almost baked in the sun. The clay and chalky soil provides both structure and finesse. The wine is fermented in classic, open Burgundy wooden vats and is therefore aged in equal parts steel tanks and large barrels.

The wine has a beautiful, glossy, dark red color. The aroma is immediately delicate and very charming. The taste is crisp, well packed and with a very endearing "jammy" and sweet fruit character. Here you also find nuances of plums, blackberries and ripe dark cherries, which in the end in the aftertaste almost resembles kirsch (cherry brandy). The wine has a lot of tannin in its youth, but its sweetness makes it very pleasant already now.
