La Maison Bleue' (formerly 'La Petite Chapelle') was first produced in 2015. The name change was made to increase focus on Jaboulet's flagship at the Hermitage, 'La Chapelle'.
The wine is made 100% from Syrah, which comes from some of Hermitage's best plots (biodynamically grown) in top vineyards such as Les Bessards, les Greffieux, le Méal and les Rocoules. The vines are 40-60 years old, and production is limited to 15-20 hl./ha. Better origins simply cannot be found in Hermitage, and the wine is made with the same care and craftsmanship as before.
However, a slightly shorter barrel maturation and a smaller proportion of new barrels (20%) result in a milder style and faster development, while also having a high concentration of aroma and flavor.
The wine has a beautiful, glossy dark red color. The aroma is a bit closed at first but develops quickly when you oxygenate it. Tones of ripe dark berries such as blackberries, blackcurrants and blueberries, as well as smoky and spicy nuances. In the taste, the wine is very concentrated, aromatic - again with the character of ripe fruits. In the aftertaste you can sense good tannin and the pleasure continues.
