Vintage port wine from the wonder year 2017!
Here we have a traditional port wine, in the purest sense of the word. 2017 is an exceptional port wine year and this Ramos Pinto has a long life ahead of it, with leading wine reviewers already estimating a lifespan of 30-40 years!
Ramos Pinto has taken a traditional approach to the production of this gem: Foot-pressed in a traditional wine press and fermented with the stem from the vine, you get a dense, powerful, old-fashioned style; the taste is packed with blackberries, blueberries, strawberry jam, kalamata olives, rhubarb crumble, Earl Grey and a delightful combination of chocolate, spices and roasted grains, before it all ends in a warm spicy aftertaste.
Try this 2017 port wine with cheeses, chocolate desserts or Christmas snacks - and feel free to store a bottle in the cellar for later enjoyment.
An exceptional vintage
In 2017, the harvest was very small, but the quality of the wine produced was very high. According to the renowned wine magazine, Wine Advocate, the 2017 vintage offers "old-school power, concentration, freshness, highlighted fruit and vibrant flavor notes. The only vintage from the last decade that can compete with it is 2011".
This is a particularly good rating, as the 2011 vintage is so far considered to be the highest rated port wine year ever!
Only 9,000 bottles of Vintage 2017 have been produced, and demand is enormous, which will only increase in the coming years.
