Domaine Laporte was founded in 1850 and is located near the village of Saint-Satur on the Loire River. Many generations of winegrowers in the Laporte family succeeded each other on the property until 1986, when the then owner, René Laporte, sold the winery to retire. The buyer was a good colleague, the Henri Bourgeois family company in Chavignol, which has produced wine in Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé for no less than 10 generations, and also founded the Clos Henri Vineyard in Marlborough (New Zealand) in 2000.
Today, the vineyards at Domaine Laporte total 30 hectares, of which 80% are planted with Sauvignon Blanc and the rest with Pinot Noir. Among the house's vineyards, "Le Rochoy" near the village of Bannay should be mentioned in particular - a continuous plot of 8.5 hectares with a subsoil of pure flint, which is known for its ringing, clean and mineral wines. Today, all vineyards at Domaine Laporte are organically certified and under the control of Agriculture Biologique (AB).
The place has been known since the Romans as a flint quarry under the name “Rochetum”, which explains the large content of sharp flints in the field today. The sun's heat is stored during the day and released at night, which gives the grapes a perfect ripening. The vinification is classic for Sancerre wines with a cool fermentation in steel tanks, followed by a maturation with lees until bottling in June after the harvest.
The vineyard always produces optimally and quickly ripening grapes, which produce wines with great body, character and minerality. Domaine Laporte's version from this field is absolutely no exception. The color is light gold, with a glossy, greenish tinge. In the aroma, Le Rochoy reveals magnificent nuances of white flowers (hawthorn flowers, jasmine) and exotic fruits. In the taste, the wine is very delicate and fresh at first, but it quickly develops smoky notes of flint, fatness and great minerality. It ends with an astonishing, delicious velvet, but also great elegance. A great experience!
Serve it with shellfish (oysters, lobster tails, scallops), with fish and with poultry or veal in light sauces.
