liquid version of a freshly baked Danish rye bread?
A Danish rye whisky with a dark and toasted aroma of grain and a long, smooth aftertaste with hints of ripe fruit. The malted rye will delight whisky drinkers who would not normally give rye whisky a second thought.
The floor malting of locally grown grain and the flame-heated pot stills give Stauning Rye a unique taste: a distinct touch of fresh grain that is in no way dusty or spicy. The long aftertaste is soft and sweetly fruity. Stauning RYE is brewed with 51% floor malted rye and 49% floor malted barley.
WHO IS THE TARGET GROUP?
Stauning is aimed at curious whisky fans in search of new and different taste experiences. They are open-minded and explore all kinds of techniques, types and expressions within the world of whisky. They enjoy a fine, classic whisky as much as a modern and innovative cocktail stirred with finesse and care.
WORTH KNOWING
The use of an open fire allows us to heat our copper stills to much higher temperatures than usual (up to 650°C). This gives our raw whisky a much deeper and more complex flavour. The heat causes barley husks, sugar compounds, proteins, dead yeast cells and dextrins to stick to the inside of the copper in the same way as when a steak is thrown on a red-hot grill. The so-called Maillard reaction inside the still
creating different flavor components such as chocolate, caramel and roasted nuts. Stauning RYE is aged in new American oak barrels and is never chill filtered.
“ A fascinating whisky that constantly draws you back. "

" At Stauning distillery on Denmark's west coast, malting rye has been a key part of the production since its launch a decade ago. The spirit here is produced from a blend of Danish rye and barley and distilled in traditional direct-fire pot stills, which gives a rounded, almost creamy note. A 95-point score and a gold medal shows how well made this really is. "
