Smoke tastes like a hot summer day on the heath; a mildly smoky single malt whisky made from pure West Jutland malted barley smoked over locally harvested peat and heather. A full-blooded terroir whisky that gently blows the senses away.

Stauning Smoke is the essence of the distillery's innovative New Nordic whisky philosophy: Brewed with pure local ingredients. Malted on an open floor. Smoked over peat and heather from the landscape around Stauning. Double-distilled in small pot stills over an open fire. Aged in 1st Fill wine and spirit casks. The result is an elegant and refined whisky that, with its gentle smoky flavor and complex character, exudes the dunes, heath and wind of the North Sea.

Worth knowing:

  • Peat is thousands of years old dead plants and vegetation that are pressed together into dense layers that can be used as fuel when dried. Peat takes on the character of the landscape from which it is created. That is why Stauning only uses fuel from local peat bogs.
  • We mix the peat with dried heather plants harvested from the heathland around Ringkøbing Fjord. The heather gives the whisky a mild and aromatic smoky flavour.
  • Stauning Smoke is aged for a good 5 years in a mixture of 1st Fill bourbon barrels, 1st Fill Madeira barrels, 1st Fill Jamaica rum and new American oak barrels.

The taste of buzzing bees and heather in a bottle. A mild smoke from an open fire mixes with elegant notes of citrus and honey. In the mouth, a full-bodied taste of tobacco, nuts, vanilla and fresh herbs emerges.
