The aroma is quite classic Sauvignon Blanc, with a good coolness and nuances of elderflower and gooseberry. With a little oxygenation the wine gets rounder and more “yellowish” tones, with a character of wild flowers and citrus fruits. The taste is kept in the strict style – clean dry, structured, and with good finesse at the end. It is more elegant than powerful and therefore very reminiscent in style of the red wines from the same estate – something that has been intended. Serve it with grilled fish, shellfish served “natural” with e.g. lime or lemon.

With the 2011 vintage, Tenuta San Leonardo introduced Vette di San Leonardo, a white wine made exclusively from Sauvignon Blanc. It is always exciting when a dedicated red wine producer like Tenuta San Leonardo suddenly decides to make a white wine. “We wanted to show with this wine that the perfect balance between minerality, richness and astringency that our winery is known for could also be expressed in a white wine,” says Marquis Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga. “That is why we chose Sauvignon Blanc, which, when grown in our vineyards, gives the crispness and elegance we want to achieve, in line with our philosophy here at the farm.”

San Leonardo's Sauvignon Blanc was planted in 1996 and 2005 in the northernmost part of the property. Here, pointed mountains (Vette in Italian) characterize the landscape, and it is they who gave the idea for the wine's name. The grapes are hand-picked, and after their arrival at the vineyard they undergo a short skin maceration, after which they are gently pressed. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks and after fermentation the wine is allowed to rest and settle naturally on its "lie" (sediment) for 5 months, also in steel tanks.
