The "Scarrone" vineyard, where the Barbera grapes for this wine are grown, is located very close to the vineyard itself, near the village of Castiglione Falletto, and is also in transition to organic cultivation.
The grapes undergo a cold maceration before fermentation for two weeks in open steel tanks, with built-in pumping over and agitation, followed by a further week of cool maceration. The wine is transferred to wooden barrels for malolactic fermentation and finally matured for 18 months in a combination of large wooden barrels, barriques and steel tanks.
The wine has a very concentrated and mature style. Here you will find nuances of ripe cherries, plums and blackberries, which are nicely lifted by a good structure and freshness. It is a very complex and at the same time charming wine.
Serve it with lamb, beef or game, but also with duck, grilled dishes or with mature blue cheeses.
