Edouard Delaunay Burgundy

The Edouard Delaunay wine house, founded in 1893 and headquartered at Château de Charmont in Hautes Côtes de Nuits, would probably have fallen into oblivion if it weren't for Laurent Delaunay, son of Jean-Marie Delaunay and 4th generation in the wine family.

After completing his oenology and business studies in 1989, he managed to work with his father for a few years before the family had to sell their life's work. At the time, he was too young and inexperienced to take over the company, but the dream of one day being able to buy the family property and company back remained.

After working for Boisset for a few years, he, together with his wife Catherine, took the initiative to establish the wine company Badet Clément. In 2003, Badet Clément took over the company VDP (Domaines & Vins de Propriété Bourgogne) - a distribution company for wines from small, independent wineries in Burgundy.

Laurent Delaunay has always been known as a true enthusiast, and in 2017 he fulfilled his old dream when he managed to buy back both Château de Charmont and the rights to the company name Edouard Delaunay from Boisset. 125 years after its founding, the company Edouard Delaunay was back in the family's hands, and Laurent and Catherine immediately embarked on a huge renovation project on the abandoned castle building.

Today, the castle's beautiful cellars have been completely renovated and equipped with the most modern technology. Small fermentation and maturation tanks/barrels have also been acquired to handle the many small batches of grapes purchased from the large selection of Burgundy's numerous appellations.

The cellar at the castle can also house up to 500 classic Burgundy wooden barrels (228 l.). The recipe for the wines is simple: You buy grapes from various major appellations or individual top vineyards from selected grape producers, with whom Laurent is used to working through his large network.
