Salcheto is.... Sangiovese, Quality and Sustainability!

Salcheto is a younger winery (established in 1991), but its young age and few hectares of vineyards (74 HA) have not prevented Salcheto from being on everyone's lips. The world's first CO2 neutral winery, where the entire process is well thought out and executed to perfection.

Michele Manelli, who trained at Caparzo, is a passionate soul and his work as both cellar master and owner stems from a burning interest in food and good wine, and not least how both should play together with environmentally responsible production.

Salco means willow tree in the old Tuscan language of the region, an important tree for the wine regions throughout history as its branches were used to tie around the vines.

Salcheto is the name of the stream that rises at the foot of the town of Montepulciano and winds through a valley full of willow trees. This watercourse is the boundary of the Salcheto winery's organic and biodynamic estate, rooted in the historic Vino Nobile district, in the south-eastern part of the Siena province of Tuscany.

The willow trees, which continue to be replanted on the vineyard, also contribute to the winery's energy independence, and today feature prominently in Salcheto's logo as part of its commitment to environmental sustainability.
